If you hear the groans in our reception area it’s because children are realizing that it’s back to school season! It is hard to believe that the summer is coming to a close and it is important to make sure that your child is prepared. The checklist includes all of the familiar tools including backpacks, pencils, pens, markers, etc…but what about vision?
If your child can see clearly that is a great start to having the visual tools for school. But according to the College of Optometrists in Vision Development, there are at least 17 visual skills necessary for efficient learning. These skills include tracking, focusing and eye-teaming and if those abilities are not working well it can impact a student’s ability to learn efficiently. The state of Illinois mandates that children have a comprehensive eye examination before entering Kindergarten. While there is no state law for comprehensive eye examinations beyond Kindergarten the American Optometric Association recommends school aged children have eye examinations every year. This is a critical recommendation since many vision problems go undetected without a comprehensive examination.
If you’re family is looking for a state of the art Park Ridge eye doctor, then look no further! Reach out to us here with any questions or to schedule an examination.
Happy Back to School Season!
